Primary School
Primary School
The Primary Montessori program is designed specifically for children 2 ½ to 6 years old. Through careful observation, Dr. Montessori created an environment for young children to learn and develop themselves according to their inner drives and human tendencies. Beginning with practical and social skills, children learn to work independently, care for themselves and their belongings, and how to exist in a rich community of their peers. Academic concepts are introduced through concrete, manipulative materials which utilize all five senses and lay the groundwork for abstract thinking.
Casa follows the Montessori philosophy of grouping together children 2½ to 6 years of age in a five day a week program.
Casa has two classrooms with 25 children of mixed ages in each classroom. Each classroom has an AMI trained directress and an assistant. There are two additional assistants available to make materials, take children to the bathroom and help out where needed.
Children are admitted according to eligibility criteria and in collaboration with the teachers and the school director. A child in the primary half day program may join the primary all day program at any point in the year, and it is up to the teacher’s discretion.

Returning Students
New Students
Before new students may be considered eligible for the Primary All-Day Program, they need a period of time in the classroom in which they can become familiar with the Montessori equipment and classroom. They must also meet the above criteria.
In Addition
It is understood by the teacher and the student’s parents/guardians that Casa de Montessori will not stipulate in any way that it is the student’s kindergarten year unless the student has been assessed and approved by Montgomery County for early entrance into kindergarten or the student is 5 years old or older on September 1 of the school year.
